On Saturday 4 June ’16, Nadia van Dam presented the Ladies’ Circle Singapore initiative during the Round Table Singapore 1 AGM. Her motivation for starting a Circle in Singapore:
Good evening Tablers, Ladies and Guests,
By a quick show of hands – is there anybody that isn’t familiar with the Ladies Circle organization?
What is the Ladies’ Circle? A club for women with a strong focus on community and friendship.
What is ladies circle not? A club exclusively for the wives of Tablers. Although it started out that way, it is now an independent organization, open to all women under the age of 45. That being said, the organization does encourage a connection with the Round Table and I can imagine that a Circle in formation can benefit from the Tablers’ experience. I can also imagine that on long term, working side by side on charitable projects, can be beneficial on many levels.
But I also see various causes that we can support with the motivation of inspiring women. I’ve often wondered what one could do for the Singapore community, when everybody in our direct surroundings seem so well off. But behind the facade of successful people in Financial District, living the good life on rooftop bars and shopping in Marina Bay Sands, there’s a world I was not aware existed in Singapore.
Single mothers, little girls with big dreams and women in abusive relationships – those are the ladies I’d like to reach out to and inspire with the Ladies Circle. And if we can do that while having fun together, who wouldn’t want to join?
